SHOWDOWN HISTORY

The Metropolitan Youth Program/Drill Team has been serving the Quad Cities area youth for more than 21 years. Metro is host to one of the Quad Cities most electrifying events. The Annual Drill Team Showdown, which is officially known as “Drums Along the River”. This event takes place annually on the first Saturday of August. This event attracts several drill teams from all over the United States and averaging over 700 youth participating. Drums Along the River has been known to be one of the BEST shows in the country to participate in and to witness. This event attracts well over 5,000 spectators annually, and continually growing. Each participating drill team receives a trophy for attending and making this event a success.

Started back in 1994 the drill team showdown was created in order to allow the Quad Cities to witness the performance's of other drill teams, as well as it's very own Metropolitan Youth Program. The drill team showdown gives drill teams from through our the United States the opportunity to showcase their talents to well over 5,000 spectators, which has continued to grow each year. The Showdown which is well into it's 12th year continues to grow more than ever every year, more teams, more spectators, and even more to come. The Drill Team showdown is currently, due to the rising number of spectators, now held at Rock Island's High School Football Stadium, in Rock Island, Illinois. The day is jammed pack with the Family Fun Day Parade, Talent show, Family Fun day event with games, music, clothing, food, and information. booths.
